About the village

Kerikeri’s original retirement village

Kerikeri Retirement Village has cared for our community for more than 40 years. We are a registered, not-for-profit charitable trust — so everything we do is focused on our residents and their wellbeing, not shareholders.

Caring for your future

We offer a continuum of care in one place. Whether you are looking for an independent apartment or cottage, or you need more support, you will find an option to suit — with the reassurance that further care is here if your needs change.

This means you can settle into the community, make friends, and stay close to them even if your care needs grow over time.

Our grounds and location

The village sits on over 15 acres of park-like grounds in the heart of Kerikeri — next door to Kerikeri High School, and an easy walk from shops and cafés. The grounds are secure and pet-friendly — approved pets are welcome to call the village home. You will find us at 125 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri.

Almost everything you need is within a short stroll. Pick a place below to see how far it is.

Ownership and governance

The Kerikeri Village Trust was formed in 1983 as a joint venture between Presbyterian Support Northern, the Murray-Graveson Trust and the Auckland Methodist Mission.

In 2018, the operating structure changed to Kerikeri Retirement Village Limited, a registered charitable company run under the direction of a Board of Trustees. The Village is not privately or shareholder owned.

All income is used to run, maintain and upgrade the Village.

The Kerikeri Village Trust holds the land and buildings, and residents buy an Occupation Right Agreement.

A management team runs the Village’s day-to-day operations and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Our values

  • Compassionate care, with respect and dignity — manaakitanga
  • We are family — whanaungatanga
  • Guardianship: we are all guardians of our organisation — kaitiakitanga
  • Continuous improvement — te whakapakari tonu

Volunteering and donations

As a charitable trust, we are supported by a wonderful community of volunteers and donors. Giving your time or making a donation helps us continue caring for older people in Kerikeri. If you would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you.

You can also support the Village by leaving a gift in your will. To find out more, email [email protected] or call 09 407 0070.

Even an hour a week makes a real difference. You will not be asked to do any heavy lifting or help with personal care — our qualified staff take care of all that. Here are some of the ways you could help.

Reading

Reading aloud to residents with sight loss — a shared story and good company.

Letters and email

Helping residents read and write letters, emails and texts, so they stay connected.

Flower arranging

Arranging flowers with residents who miss their own gardens and blooms.

Card games

A hand of cards, a bit of competition and a lot of laughter. We have some card sharks.

Garden walks

Walking our gardens alongside residents who need a steadying arm.

Reminiscing

Otherwise known as a good chat. Our residents’ memories are vivid and there is much to learn.

Pampering

Nail painting and a gentle hand massage — always gratefully received.

Wellness chair

Sitting with residents in our sensory chair, which calms and comforts — especially in dementia care.

Music

Play an instrument, sing along, or cut a jig. Music is a universal language.

Event help

Lending a hand with our busy calendar of events, outings and off-site visits.

Morning tea trolley

Pushing the tea trolley — a chat, a natter and a little of the outside world.

Library

Helping residents choose their next book from the village library.
